All Summer:
Buena Vista Heritage Museum is open Mon-Sat 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sun. noon-5, through September 30.
St. Elmo Schoolhouse is open, Wed.-Sun., 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. through Sept. 26. We're proud of this restoration project. The St. Elmo Schoolhouse Museum is a work in progress. We opened the doors to share this much-loved building with our local community and visitors as soon as restoration was complete. The schoolhouse is decorated with original, and mostly local, artifacts typical of a one-room schoolhouse at the turn of the last century.
July

$8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-16, $4 for BVH members, free for kids ages 5 and under (payable at the gate).
July 16 - Carin Mari and Pony Express
Concert to Benefit Buena Vista Heritage.
7:00p.m. at the Heritage Museum.
$15.00. Children under 12: $3.00.
BVH members: $12.00 if purchased at the museum or on-line.
Tickets are availble at the BV Chamber of Commerce, local banks, the Heritage Museum and on-line.

August
Aug. 1 – Free Day at the Buena Vista Heritage Museum in honor of Colorado Day.
Aug. 7 – Seventh Annual St. Elmo Restoration Auction, 10 a.m.
Aug. 8 – Historic Cemetery Tour at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Rodeo Road, 7 p.m. $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-16, $4 for BVH members, free for kids ages 5 and under (payable at the gate).
Aug. 14 – Madams of Central Colorado, 7 p.m. at the Buena Vista Heritage Museum. Tickets are $15 per person ($12 for members), available in advance at the Buena Vista Chamber and BV Heritage Museum.
Several of Chaffee County's infamous Madams have returned from the dead and are having a little gathering upstairs at the Heritage Museum. Meet Cockeyed Liz and Belle Brown from BV, Laura Evens from Salida, Lillian Powers of Florence and some of "the girls." They invite you to come and learn about what it was like to be a "soiled dove" in the late 1800's. Educational and historical, this presentation has adult content but is very tastefully done with no foul language. Not recommended for young children.

Aug. 21-22 – King Boletus Mushroom Festival

Sept. 11 – Turner Farm Apple Fest, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Festivities include picking and pressing apples, croquet, horseshoes, a cake walk, sewing and spinning demonstrations, butter making, log sawing, children’s activities, tractor rides and tours of the farm. Entertainment will be provided by local musicians on the front porch of the farmhouse. Free-will donations accepted at the entrance.

Madams of Central Colorado, 7 p.m. at the Buena Vista Heritage Museum. Tickets are $15 per person ($12 for members), available in advance at the Buena Vista Chamber and BV Heritage Museum and at the door. If you have ever wanted to know what life for these "shady ladies" was like come and here them tell their TRUE tales. This is a historical reenactment based on women who actually lived in Chaffee County and worked 'in the business'. You will hear why they got in the business, how they prevented pregnancy and disease and other interesting facts. Tastefully done but not recommended for young children. The show has been performed for 4 years now and has been written up in the Denver Post 3 times. This is the last show of the season and the girls have decided to take a rest and will not perform next year. You may order tickets on line below the photo.

Sept. 17 - Ed Quillen Speaks at 7pm upstairs in the Heritage Museum, 508 East Main. If you have never heard Ed, it is time to do so! His quick, dry wit has made him a favorite of locals. He is a renowned editor, writer and contributor to the Denver Post. Until recently he owned Colorado Central Magazine and still writes articles for it. Check out some of his articles at www.edquillen.com He will talk about the North - South war in Chaffee County and how Buena Vista stole the courthouse from Granite among other topics. Tickets cost $8, Heritage members may pay $5 by showing card. Tickets are on sale at the BV Chamber, at the BV Heritage Museum, by phone at 719-395-8458, and at the door.
