We need your help!

Safe in DepotThis week, BV Heritage acquired a vintage safe that will reside in the DSP&P depot in McPhelemy Park. We got it from a family in Hartsel, who had bought it from the depot in Hartsel in 1919. We need to raise $1500 to cover the purchase. Please donate today!

Pictured with the safe are BVH board members Suzy Kelly and Vic Kuklin, who helped with the purchase and the moving of the safe. We also sincerely appreciate the help of Bryce Kelly, Sue Kuklin, Roger Williams and Jack, Amy and Chad Close.

Delivering the safeThe safe is in the depot mail room, as historically, registered mail was required to be locked up.

Our Mission

Buena Vista Heritage is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that exists to preserve and share the history of Buena Vista and Chaffee County for the education and enjoyment of the public. Our projects include the restoration and operation of the Buena Vista Heritage Museum, the Turner Farm, St. Elmo Schoolhouse and the Buena Vista Depot.  We rebuilt the St. Elmo Town Hall/ Jail.

Organizational History

Over the 40 years that BV Heritage has been in existence, our organization has become an integral part of the community, building a solid reputation by focusing on our mission and by providing educational and heritage tourism opportunities in the most cost-efficient way possible. Our history can be summarized as typical early struggles, followed by two decades of calm, then rapid growth.
